Female chickens are called hens. They lay about six eggs. Then they sit on them for 21 days, to keep them warm until they hatch.

Chickens eat worms, insects, seeds, grains, snails, slugs, fruits, vegetables and many other foods. The gizzard which is a part of the stomach contains tiny stones to help grind up the food.
What do we get from chickens?
Chickens give us eggs and meat to make things like roast chicken, chicken nuggets and chicken burgers. Feathers from ducks and geese are also used as stuffing (down) in jackets and pillows.
